Campus Book Rentals

This week I have been spending considerable amounts of time researching PhD programs.  I have been playing around with the idea of going back to school for a long time.  Even when I was in undergrad I knew I wanted to earn my doctoral degree.  Since then I have changed my course of study.  I was a Bible major and I was sure i was going to teach Bible at the university level.  Then in my Master's program I realized I needed to know at least 4 or 5 languages 2 of them being dead languages and I realized it was time to find a new profession. Ain't nobody got time to learn a dead language!

Master's Graduation with my momma.  Only had to pretend to know two dead languages for this degree!
I took a long time to figure out what I may want a PhD in and I waited to apply for school until I felt ready, I mean it is a huge commitment after all, four or five years of my life.

I have come to the conclusion that I am ready and have spent the time researching programs and finding schools I am super interested in.  I have narrowed my search and started filling out applications.  I am meeting with Deans and looking at course loads and how many words I have to write for a Thesis.  I am considering moving overseas, I am considering staying in Southern California.  Overall, there is a lot that I have to consider and think about before I take the plunge.

Some of my great students at their graduation, just a few months away from college.  I am so envious of them!
All of this thinking has reminded me of what being a student is like.  I really love being a student and I miss it.  Thinking about writing a paper, reading a book, or sitting through a lecture seems impossible right now, but the idea of going back to school is exciting.

One of the parts of school that I love the most is getting my new books each year.  I know it is totally nerdy, but I really get excited when I look at the books I will read (pretend to read for some) that semester.

I have a new tip to share with you called CampusBookRentals.com.  Campus Book Rentals is a great resource for students who are looking for great prices on books that do not have to keep the books after their semester is over.  I have a shelf full of books that I don't know what to do with.  I have not looked at them since college and they are not doing me any good at home.  Had I known about this in college I would have used it.

I am super excited that now there are more programs available for students looking for books.  My friends and I tried hard to save money while buying books in college and we were always sharing our tips with one another.
A few reasons to consider Campus Books Rentals:

- Savings of 40-90% off of bookstore prices

- Free shipping both ways
- You can highlight in the textbooks
- Flexible renting periods
- Donation to Operation Smile with each textbook rented
Operation Smile is an organization that gives surgeries for children born with a cleft pallet.  Volunteer doctors perform surgeries to heal these children born with a cleft.

I did a little research on if the books are really much more inexpensive than other websites or bookstores.  I used the textbook I teach from in my Psychology class.

Psychology : Concepts and Applications

ISBN-13: 9780547148144
AUTHOR: Nevid, Jeffrey S.
EDITION: 3
PUBLISHER: Wadsworth

You can rent it on Kindle for $29.37 or buy it for $97.47.  The actual hard copy of the book is listed for $122.70.

If I were to rent the book right now until May 15th it would only cost $17.50.

Next year I will be recommending this service for my students as a cost effective way of getting their books for the year without breaking the bank.

They also have a new program calledRentBack is new initiative that allows students to rent the textbooks they own - to other students.  This is a great program because it can help students make two to four times more money back on their books than other buy back options.
