Listed Tuesday: Ways To Find Your Blog Voice

So friends I have been having a heck of a time this summer being excited about blogging.  I have enjoyed being outside, working out, and reading books for fun and blogging has definitely taken a backseat in my life.  I also think that I am looking for a new things to blog about or a different way to write.  I haven't totally worked through that yet, so I continue to write and look for what I want this space to be.

As I have been looking for ways to find what I want to say and what I want this blog to be I have come across some things that have been helpful for me finding my writing voice that I thought I would share with you today.

I also thought I would resurrect So You Want To Start a Blog, cause I miss it!

5 Ways to Find Your Blogging Voice

Finding Your Blogging Voice

1. Have a clear head.

When I am clear on what I want to write and do not let a ton of things distract me from my writing I tend to like what I write 1000% more. If I sit at my computer for too long not liking what I am writing or moving between facebook and twitter I know it is time to put the laptop away and just do something else and come back later to see what I came up with.

Perhaps this should just be for published posts, there is something in just writing and getting things out there.

2. Turn off the TV

How can you find your voice when there are 10 others on your TV telling you what is funny, relevant, or interesting?  Answer: you can't!  Don't get me wrong I love me some TV viewing, but I never like what I write when my TV is on.  I am not engaged in my writing and it usually is weak.  The only time this works is when I am actually writing about what I am watching.

3. Find music that does not distract

When I am trying to find things to write about I cannot listen to my jams, because I will jam!  Writing is harder when I am jamming to a song that I love cause I just want to sing that song.  I have found that writing with music that has words in another language really works for me.  I know it sounds a little snobby, but I like to have music while I write and if I cannot understand what I am hearing it works.

4. Go out and do something new

Putting yourself in new situations totally helps me feel fresh about life and in turn about my writing.  For example on Thursday I am doing something that really scares me and I have been so creative for that event.  I will tell you more about it later, but in short I think I am going to do a little stand up comedy at an open mic.  Oh my God I just said it I guess it is real.

5. Write for an audience

This is just a good writing tip.  Know who your audience is or who you would like you audience to be and write for them.  If people not in your audience do not read you blog do you really care?  Maybe a little but you will get over it.  If the people you want to read your work are reading it and loving it mission accomplished.

Recently

Last week I was in the great city of San Diego, which we all know means.... (By the way how terrible was Anchorman 2?)

[caption id="attachment_1810" align="aligncenter" width="600"]The only day I actually made it to the beach. The only day I actually made it to the beach.[/caption]

I was there for a teaching conference for the AP Psychology class I am teaching next year.  For those of you who are like app Psychology what is that?  It is the Advanced Placement Psych, the college version in a high school classroom.  In other words a ball of full for adolescent teenagers!

This conference itself was so inspirational for me.  I love hearing good teachers give lessons and help me be better at what I do.  I will say though that being a student again was hard.  Sitting in a chair from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a lunch break was torture on my back and attention span.

While I was struggling to stay awake and attentive I realized that teachers are the absolute worst students in the world.  When our teacher gave us group work I would roll my eyes and act like it was the hardest thing in the world to read two pages and tell someone about it.

The people behind me were on the computers the whole time watching the World Cup.  Which, by the way if another person tells me they played soccer in high school and that they have always loved soccer I am moving to Canada.

The whole class (including me) was on their phones checking gmail and texting.

The older folks in the class threw a temper tantrum when we went over the changes in diagnosing people with a psychological disorder (DSM 5 changes for the two of you who are also psychos).

And because it was a room full of teachers everyone thought they were smarter than the rest, tried to correct the instructor, and would talk and talk and talk just to hear their own voice.

As a species we are not so spectacular when combined in large groups.  Thanks non teaching friends for putting up with me!

Also my dog ate my students homework.  Well she tried, I stopped her, but the irony made me giggle.

My Dog Ate My Hoomework

Also go see 22 Jump Street.  I have not laughed that hard in a movie for a very long time!  If you were not super keen on the 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street was amazing!

And on one last note,  I have been living in these tank tops from Target.  I bought one in every color and they are the essence of my summer wardrobe, They were all under ten dollars a shirt, so I say that is a win win!  Maybe even wear it when you go laugh your face off at Channing and Jonah.

Color Me Brave

I am really excited to introduce you to Paulina from Color Me Brave today! She is a real gem in this blog world and is authentic.  If you haven't read her blog I would high recommend you do so now and never quit!

Color Me Brave

What is your favorite thing to blog about?

I love to blog about my weight loss journey. I know how much I needed when I first got started that reading others journeys who have already succeeded helped me a lot so I want to do that for others. I also love talking about my dating tales. Not only do my readers love it, but I want to be able to look back many years from now when I am happily married how I got to find my love.

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging first as a freelancer for other bloggers. Fast forward a year later I am signing up to blogspot and writing my first post to vent on life and then shortly after that how much dating sucks.

Where are you from and what is your favorite thing to do there?

I am from Jersey! Not the crazy fist pumping kind though. Promise. No fist pumping as ever happened. But I do live close to the shore so of course that just happens to be my favorite place and favorite about everything else. Jersey girl born and raised and really never want to leave.

Do you have a furry baby? If so tell us about him or her.

Of course I have a fur baby! His name is Palmer or Palm for short. Or as all my friends call him. He is a person! Which I am sure is true. I am convinced that he thinks he is a human. He has fears and then wants to be carried around like a baby. You even have to soothe him like he is a baby too. By bouncing him up and down and rubbing his back. While that happens he burrows his head in my neck and will calm down and fall asleep. Then I am left to carry his 36 pound body to my bed.

Color Me Brave

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and why?

I usually answer this as Fiji Island because I was supposed to go years ago but my trip got cancelled due to a government overthrow. Now though I really want to go to Disney. My parents keep talking about going to Disney again since its been 5 years since we were last there. And really who doesn’t want to go to the happiest place in the world.

Describe your most embarrassing moment.

Many of them are actually up on the blog. Or I at least think I have blogged about them in the past. But the most was when I was in middle school and I had to pee so bad on my walk home. I may have had an accident and had to use my backpack to cover it which was hard because I wore kakis that day. And haven’t worn them since.

What is your favorite color and why?

Blue. I have tired to have other favorite colors, but blue just suits me. I have a pair of blue ray-bans that people now know its me when they see them. Doesn’t help that I have had them for 6 years; they don’t stay on straight and they have been chewed on by Palmer when he as a puppy. But they are me.

What is your favorite way to stay active?

I would used to say swimming. I was a competitive swimmer for years, but now with no pool to swim in. I have learn to love running.

Do you have any hidden talents and what are they?

Does being able to spot out designers brands on people a hidden talent? If not then I don’t have one.

Who was your childhood celebrity crush?

When I was younger my gay-dar was broken because I was in love with Lance Bass.

Healthy Treats

One of the ways I splurge in my life is on my health.  I have come to find that treating myself well and taking care of my body are some of the best ways for me to feel good about myself and the world around me.  OK enough of my hippie ways how about I just share a few of my favorite ways to treat myself!

1. Shakeology!

A good friend of mine told me about Shakeology about two weeks ago.  Yes I have only been using it for two weeks, but I can tell you I love it so far.  It is a meal replacement shake that is delicious and filling.  I have tried others like Slim Fast and I can tell you I am dying of hunger in about two hours after drinking it.

Shakeology keeps me full for about four or five hours. One of the things it promises is to help reduce craving for junk food.  This is my favorite part of it.  Since I have started to use it I have wanted way less sweets and chips etc.  I still eat junk food but I stop after a few bites or actually crave fruit or veggies instead.  Honestly I am loving this product and would recommend it to anyone.

It costs about $4 a shake, which if you think about how much you pay for lunch is about the same.  I am currently using the chocolate, but I am excited to use other flavors because I like to blend in fruit and it is hard to find things other than bananas that work well with chocolate.

I use my little Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender add some almond milk and a frozen banana and bam delish breakfast or lunch!

2. Tone It Up

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="345"] via[/caption]

I joined Tone It Up a couple of years ago and have loved learning more about health and nutrition.  I do not follow the program strictly, but I do use a lot of recipes and really enjoy the Perfect Fit and workouts. My favorites are the vanilla pro tine powder and the Beach Babe 2 DVD.  I get a wonderful workout from home.  I also love that Karena and Katrina are so positive and fun.  They are very inspirational to keep working out and being your best.

I have other things that I love that I will probably share in another post.  But for now what are some of your favorite ways to treat yourself when it comes to your health?

My Summer Playlist

I recently shared my summertime playlist over on Helene In Between.  Because I am so close to the ocean and my brain hurts after all day in classes I decided to share it here with you today!

If you are me your life is pretty great right now.  I am on summer break because I deal with society's children for 10 months as a High School English teacher.  Summer is the best ever and all I really do is nothing, just find more ways to relax. One of the best ways I relax is with music oh and going to the beach because I live in southern California, please don't hate me.

Because "Summer Erica" has taken over for the next two months I thought I would share chill summer playlist with you.

1. Bob Marley "Three Little Birds"

I am pretty sure this is the quintessential beachy, chilling song.  No one does it better than Bob Marley

2. Jake Owen "Beachin"

I love me some county music and Jake Owen is a total hottie.  I would sit on a beach with him any day.

3. Keith Urban "Little Bit of Everything"

I dare you not to dance around and sing along to this song.

4. Kenny Chesney "When I See This Bar"

I just want to be at an island bar with all my buds when I hear this song.

5. The Eagles "Take It Easy"

I love some classic rock and The Eagles have been preaching a message of taking it easy for most of my life so I try and listen to them.

6. Paul Simon "You Can Call Me Al"

Such a silly song that I thing belongs in summer.

7. Ray LaMontagne "You Are The Best Thing"

Obviously Ray is singing this song to summer.

8. Patty Griffin "Heavenly Day"

First, Patty Griffin is amazing.  Second, she wrote this song for her dog. Third, my dog Penny and I love this song.

9. Tom Petty "Learning To Fly"

Try and be uptight during any Tom Petty song.  Just try it.

10. Joshua Radin "I'd Rather Be With You"

All of his songs are relaxing and chill so I just picked one for this list.

Listed Tuesday: How To Kill A Bug

This weekend I had one of the most horrific experiences of my life.  The largest bug in all creation decided to make his abode in my abode around 11pm Saturday night. May and I were chatting about something and she looked at the wall and screamed.  Being the ever cool person I am I told her I would kill it.  Then I saw it and all bravery left me. I will tell you that the bug did die and that one of these is how I killed it.

1. Make your pet kill it.

[caption id="attachment_1785" align="aligncenter" width="600"]Erica Jacquline Penny refused to do anything but be held during the trauma that ensued.[/caption]

2. Call the Helpful Honda People to do it.  After all it is their job to be helpful.

3. Squash it with a shoe you will never wear again.

4. Call the police or fire department to come. Don't tell them what it is for.  Instead tell them it is for a domestic disturbance, cause it is true.  That bug disturbed my domestic tranquilly.  My tax dollars should pay for at least one bug removal a year.

5. Post a plea on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/EricaJacquline/status/480226489640570881

6. Post an ad on Craigslist for a booty call then when they get there have them kill the bug and then kick them out.  (This one sounds pretty risky, only use it as a last resort).

7. Join Tinder and have the first non-murdery person that is within a mile come over.  (This is the second lest safe option).

8. Move.

9. Call your newly married friend and ask her husband and her to come over and kill it.

10. Call your dad, uncle, mailman. Warning they will make fun of you the whole time, a small price to pay.  Did you know that june bugs will only be around for the next six days? After that they will be julybugs.

11. Find a can of Raid you forgot about and spray the heck out of the kitchen cabinet the bug locked itself in.  Sit back for 15 minutes.  Then listen to the bug fight for life for about two minutes and go to bed. Do not open the cabinet until 2 the next afternoon and gently and quickly move the dead bug from the cupboard with an empty Swiffer box.  Run as fast as you can to a neighbors trashcan outside and throw that creep away.

I am sure you are having a hard time figuring out which of these amazing tactics I used on Saturday to get rid of unwelcome roommate.

Thank You To My Mystery Car Fixer

This week I am coming at you from the lovely city of San Diego!  Before you get all envious I am here for a teaching conference, not a relaxing vacation.  It appears that when you teach an Advanced Placement course (AP for those of you who still remember high school) you have to sit in a classroom for a week to know what they heck you are teaching (I am glad they are helping me).

Today I decided it was high time to link up with one of my favorite bloggers Emily from Ember Grey for her Grateful Heart Monday link up.  I sometimes need a reminder to be grateful for what I have and what I have been blessed with, so I love that Emily gives me that opportunity every week.
Ember Grey

Today I am so grateful for my car looking like a normal human owns the car again.

You see the condo I live in came equipped with the smallest garage ever.  So maybe that is not true, but it is what I tell myself.  Because it was the smallest garage ever I scrapped the side of my car more times than I would care to admit.  The passenger side of my car had what i was assuming a permanent white starch about two inches wide all the way to the bumper.

People would ask me what happened and all I could do was reply, "I happened."

A few weeks ago I was at my uncle's house with my mom and when we left she went over to my car to look at the damage.  She then asked me when I got it fixed.  I told her I hadn't had the time or money to get it fixed yet.  She was confused because the starches were gone.

I told her she was clearly looking at the wrong side of the car, but when I went over she was right.  All the starches and disgusting reminder that I stink at parking were removed from my car!

I have no idea how it happened, when it happened or anything other than my car was fixed!

So thanks!  Thanks if you fixed my car to make the world look better, or if you were a friend who just wanted to help, or if you are God and you just wanted to heal a car this time!  Whatever, whoever, however my car was fixed I am truly grateful!

I am also super grateful to introduce you to some of the best sponsors and bloggers a girl could ask for!

From Mississippi With Love

1. Give us two posts recent posts you love that someone new to your blog should read.

1 year of blogging: I recently completed my first year of blogging and was able to reflect back upon what I've learned in this first year. It was fun to realize how far I've come since first starting this hobby and make new goals for how I want to continue growing in my second year.

A list of things I'm really good at doing: This was a silly post I wrote one night when I wasn't feeling too great about myself. Even though it is meant to be humorous I think the message behind it is important to remember; we all have special talents, they just aren't all the same.

2. Tell us a little bit more about your blog.

From Mississippi With Love is a lifestyle blog about trying to navigate life in your early 20s. Sometimes it'll be silly other times it'll be serious or just down right random, but it'll always be real.

3. What is one thing you really love about yourself?

One thing I really love about myself is how close I am to my family. I thought moving home after graduation was the end of the world, but a year later I'm so thankful that I get to live with the best support system in the world.

4. What is one thing you hope people walk away from your blog with?

I hope everyone who reads From Mississippi With Love leaves thinking "Wow Hill seems so cool; I want to be her best friend!" Haha just kidding, but not really. I just hope everyone leaves thinking what I write is genuine and can relate in some way.

1. Give us links to two recent posts you would want a first time reader to read first.

Avocado Ranch Pasta Salad is one of my favorite meal posts. I'm not one who cooks or prepares fancy meals, so when I find a Pinterest recipe that I can make, I like to blog about it. And I must add, this pasta salad turns out delicious.

Small Closet Organization Part 2 is a recent favorite as well. I don't have the luxury of having a walk-in closet. So, I have to somehow make a small closet work. After a lot of browsing through Pinterest, measuring, cleaning and reorganization, I managed to organize my small closet for all my clothes to fit.

2. Give us a little introduction to you and your blog.

I'm just a Texas girl trying to figure out how to balance life with work. A Pinch Of Jasmine is just a glimpse of my life through Instagram photos, Pinterest pins, posts about my dog, and more.

3. What is one thing you love about yourself?

Yikes. Well, I like being spontaneous. Life is too short to not be. If there's something I want to try or somewhere I want to go, I'm 99.9% down to do it.

4. What is one thing you hope someone walks away with after reading your blog?

Hopefully readers will feed off of my blogposts of trying new things, even if it's as small as trying a Pinterest recipe or buying tickets to go to the ACM Awards next year. (Yes, I jumped on that opportunity real quick. It's not every day there's a country music awards show schedule to take place within driving distance from your city.)

Getting Gritty With It

Hi Friends!  I am so excited to have the lovely and talented Ashley from The Grits Blog here today.  If you have not visited her blog what have you been doing?  She is a lovely blogger and has some amazing hair tips to make your mane even better.

Ashley Grits Blog

If you are having a bad day what is the one that can always lift your spirits?

This face. I mean seriously - how could it not?! Well this face and a glass bottle of wine. Both just rock my world and make everything feel  - and look - better. I mean seriously, if you need more reasons to love this face just go read his blog takeover.

If I could go any place in the world where would you go and why?

Here. I would go here. Nope not going to name this place - it's a little family getaway place that I have been going to since I was three years old. However, you can read about my vacations there here.

It's a small little town that not a lot of people know about - which is why it's so special and secret. This place needs to stay a wonderful, peaceful secret. So for now, just look and admire from afar.

What is your favorite book, TV show, movie?

Well I just read and reviewed The Night Circus and currently it's my new favorite. Obviously, Harry Potter is my number one and will always be my number one - but right after it is The Night Circus. The imagery was beyond gorgeous and so well written that I could see and smell everything. When I cracked the book open to where ever I had previously closed it, I felt like I was instantly transported to where ever the characters were in the book, like I was actually there. It will for sure be a re-read. You can read my full review here.

If you were given a free day and a $100 what would you do?

I would go to the movies and buy panties. There is a Victorias Secret in the mall where our movie theatre is located. I always buy panties when I go to the movies - it's like my favorite pastime. Seriously, you can't argue with me here. Is there really anything better than a new pair of pretty undies and then a large buttery popcorn, large half diet half regular coke, and a pack of milk duds?! Nope. I think not.

What is your favorite line from a movie?

This is easy.

My favorite line is from my favorite movie - Gone With The Wind. If you are like what the hell is that - then you are missing out on life, go watch the movie.

I can't give this line justice, just watch the youtube clip and wait for Rhett Butler's line (about 5 seconds or so in).

Gave you goose bumps right?!

See she is totally great!  Be sure to follow Ashely over at Facebook, Bloglovin, and Pinterest!

Nine to Five: Or Whatever a Teacher Works

As I am getting ready to go to my 9 - 5 (more like 7 - 1 during the summer) I thought I would take a quick minute and link up with the lovely Helene and Sarah for #9to5totalsocial.

Helene in Between

If you are a regular reader here you know that my full-time job is to teach.  Specifically I teach hormonal seniors in high school about Literature and Psychology.  There is a lovely tab to the right full of my teaching stories if you are interested in what happens from day to day.

[caption id="attachment_940" align="aligncenter" width="702"]My Psychology class this year. They thought taking a photo where they are sleeping was hilarious. My Psychology class this year. They thought taking a photo where they are sleeping was hilarious.[/caption]

I am currently teaching Summer School, because I am a sucker love making children read The Crucible and write research papers in one week's time and then do it all over again the next week.

Most days I love my job.  My students can be bright, insightful, and compassionate.

I love teaching them about the world around them and watching them become uncomfortable with injustice and seek ways to make the world around them better.

I love when we read the ending of Of Mice and Men together and half the class screams when George pulls the trigger and the other class throws their book down.

I love that I make them line up along the wall of our class and chuck their books at the wall when they are angered or upset at the injustice they just read about.

I love that I can create a space where teenagers feel safe to be a little nerdy and can love reading.

I also love when they fall short of the list above.

I love when I get a paper about Bill Gatsby the founder of Microsoft who was trying to win the love of a woman named Daisy.

I love when I get a Wikapedia article in paper format with my students name on it (I have a few students who are apparently contributors to Wikapedia).

I love when I tell them a paper is due at midnight and half the class thinks midnight is noon.

I love when they tell me that they hate summer school and reading.

I love when I ask what computer games they play and they say "computer games".

I love every single time they walk in my class and say, "are we doing anything today?"

Things I do not love include watching them graduate and mountains of paperwork that seems to get bigger every year.

Erica Jacquline Graduation

Oh and I have some rather awesome co-workers that have even better stories of children being brilliant and utterly befuddling.

[caption id="attachment_1701" align="aligncenter" width="600"]I also get to go to the movies for free from time to time. I also get to go to the movies for free from time to time.[/caption]

Alright I am off to read the ending of The Crucible with the summer crew.  Pray I don't cry when Proctor refuses to sign his name and ultimately finds his redemption. What do you do for your work and what do you love about it?

Listed Tuesday: 9 Reasons I Won't Quit Facebook

Another Tuesday, another list.  I am telling you I think in lists all the time.  I was making a homework assignment for my summer school class and I just kept adding things to it because I wanted the list to grow longer and longer.  I then realized innocent children actually had to complete the work on the list and I deleted half of it.  You're welcome, students who do not even know I have a blog.

As I was thinking about what to post today I wandered my pretty little eyes over to Facebook to check out the haps.  I actually do not like Facebook that much anymore.  I am pretty bored with it if I am being honest with you.  I also long for my junior year when Facebook became a thing.  It was so simple, so fun, so private from my family.  But the moms have found the book and they have changed it forever, and it ain't all bad.

As much as I complain about the book I do not think I will shut it down, like I did to myspace.  Remember myspace?  Gross.

9 Reasons I Won't Quit Facebook

1.  Sometimes my mom's friends post really inspirational things that I need to hear to get me through my day of grading, writing, working out, and dog training.  I just logged on to Facebook and here is the first inspirational thing I found.  It too 3.892 nano seconds to find it.

10406777_444343569034987_7475133007733225469_n

2.  I really want guys I dated that are still on my Facebook to eat their heart out at my grainy selfies from Instagram.  If a Walden filter doesn't scream, "I am so over you!" what does?

Erica Jacquline Jamba Juice

3.  I need to know what I believe politically.  I know a lot of you have unfriended or removed your politically active friends from Facebook.  I personally love reading what they post.  I need to know what I do not believe.  I have just taken to believing the opposite of what my politically active friends post on Facebook.  It has actually panned out pretty well and I have a lot of free time to not watch the news now.

4.  I need to be able to delete ugly photos of myself that people tag me in.  If I was not on Facebook 5 ugly photos of me could be out in the world for you to look at.  Just kidding I always take the prettiest pictures this is just something other people have told me they like to use Facebook for.

5. My coworkers remind me when I can wear jeans to work.  They are so nice and will take a photo of a pair of jeans and tag me in it.  It is the little things people.

Ducks Fans

6. So my mom can have a friend.  Just kidding mom that was so mean!  I love you and I will never put you in a home

Mom

7. To keep up with BuzzFeed Affairs.  How else would I know what emoji I am or what it is like to turn 30?

8. So all my friends can know what my grandmother looks like.  No joke my grandmother will ask us to take photos of her and then post them on Facebook so our friends know who she is. I get my narcissism from her and my charming quality of having to pee every few hours.

9.  To have another avenue to clog the interwebs with links to this here blog. On that note you should probably like my page here if you haven't already.

AMC Theaters Won't Hire Me

Well it is summer time for this little teacher and she is in need of some extra cash!  I am teaching summer school, kill me, because I need money to pay bills, but I also want a little money to actually have some fun this summer.  I wanted to make a little extra fun money and I wanted to do it with the least amount of energy exerted ever.  I then thought of the most perfect job ever, AMC ticket seller person.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="300"] via[/caption]

How hard is that job?  The answer: It isn't hard at all.  In fact Penny could probably figure it out.

All I would have to do is sit in air conditioning and find out how many tickets to the 4pm showing of 22 Jump Street Nana and her friends wanted.  Easy peasy. I would have even been fine with an 18 year old kid being my manager and telling me to keep the line outside moving.

I went over to my local AMC theater and asked the manager if they were hiring ticket sellers.

He said yes they were looking for summer employees and asked if I knew anyone who was interested.  I told him I was interested and he asked about my schooling.  I told him I already graduated college and work as a High School English teacher.  Then he laughed at me.

He told me that they only hire  are not educated, which I thought was grossly unfair.  I went to college for over 7 years in order to not be able to get any job in the world that I want?  Ludicrous!

I was at the movie theater later that week with my work and I watched the ticket man struggle to figure out how to print 60 tickets for our group. I turned to my boss and told her my story and that they only hire uneducated people and we laughed.

I almost told his manager that I was available to work for the summer but thought better of it.

Since then I have thought of other jobs that would give me some cash for easy work but have not heard back from the applications I turned in.

If you are a manager in a nearby AMC, 24 Hour Fitness, Massage Envy, Mystic Tan, or other stupid easy receptionist jobs, help an educated woman make some money to go to a concert or two this summer!

Listed Tuesday: Summer Goals

I am on day two of summer and I thought it would be important to come up with some summer goals. Maybe it is just me but it is so easy to get nothing done during the summer.  If I do not set goals I would sit on the couch and just waste away.

` Wake up by 6 to take Penny on a walk every morning

- Leave work by 12:15 every day (this is super important considering I am teaching summer school and will not be paid for any extra time I spend working)

- Work out for an hour at least five times a week.  I am really committed to getting in better shape and feeling better about myself.

- Write a blog post each weekday.

- Write for my book for an hour every weekday.

- Get more tan.  Perhaps the most important goal of all.

- Keep my hair the same color for a season.  Yesterday's post will prove how hard that one will be.

- Relax.  I am telling you I taught one summer school class so far and I am already exhausted.

Penny's Goals

- Learn to swim.  DONE!

Penny The Puppy Swims

- Settle the heck down.  OK maybe that is my goal.

May's Goals

- Get As in her summer school classes.

- Go to Raging Waters.

We are a wild bunch around here.  What are some of your goals this summer?

The Hair Cycle

I realized that I am such a creature of habit when it comes to my hair and my hair color.  It may not seem like it because I went from this:

Erica Jacquline Graduation

To this:

Erica jacquline

in a day, but even that is predictable now.

Maybe you can relate to me, but I am on a hair cycle that is getting shorter every time.  The first time I think it was over the course of two years, then a year and this last time it was only six months.  I am pretty sure I am a addicted to changing my hair, is there a support group for that yet?

Here is how the cycle goes

1. Be brunette

I usually go brunette because well, God gave me brunette hair.  I will usually go through  a phase where I just want my hair to be natural and not have to worry about highlights.

2. Add a few highlights

This happens after about three months of natural clorored hair.  I get bored and want just a little something more.  I get really find blonde highlights to break up the monotony.

Erica Jacquline

3. Shoot I have roots now, guess I gotta get my highlights touched up.

Because when you get your highlights done you actually get more blonde in your hair this turns in to the curliest cycle of all.  The more touch ups the blonder you become.  The less touch ups the more roots you have.  It is evil and I now know it is from the devil.

Erica Jacquline

4.  Dang I am blonde!  Well if I am going to be blonde might as well ride it out and try and look like Jennifer Aniston.

So you bring in a photo of Jen A. in her honey blonde glory and think this is it.  This is the color I will stick with forever.  Then your roots show a month later and you hate yourself again.

Erica Jacquline

5. Just dye it brown.  I cannot handle my roots and the blonde and it is too expensive.

Erica Jacquline

6. Find a gray hair.  Blonde is closer to gray than brown.  I think I should get some highlights to hide this one gray hair….

Don't forget that Listed Tuesday will be back up and running again!  Sorry about last week for some reason running a graduation ceremony was time consuming, who knew?
